Xi’an Museum is located at Youyi West Road, Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. The museum is divided into two parts, including the area cultural exhibition, historical interests which focus on the Small Wild Goose Pagoda 小雁塔 and Jianfu Temple荐福寺. On May 5, 2007, Xi’an Museum was opened to the public. Xi’an Museum is one of the top museums in China.
 

Xi’an Museum is famous for the buildings in the Tang Dynasty, Small Wild Goose Pagoda. And, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is the most important building in Xi’an Museum. There is no doubt that the Small Wild Goose Pagoda has the architectural style of the Tang Dynasty. It is a great place for people to experience the architectural culture of the Tang Dynasty.
 

The logo of the Xi’an Museum is designed based on the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. The logo shows the long history of the Xi’an Museum and the profound Chinese culture. It seems to make us remind of the past glories of Xi’an.

The Exhibition Hall is the main building in Xi’an Museum. The famous architect Zhang Jinqiu, who is also the architect of the Shaanxi History Museum, designed this building. In 2004, it was chosen as the top ten beloved landmarks in Xi’an. The building area is about 16,000 square meters, among which the exhibition area covers 5,000 square. There are 130,000 cultural relics from the different periods of Xi’an in the exhibition hall.


There is a small exhibition hall in the museum that mainly shows the culture of Chang’an Buddhism. The theme of the exhibition is “Compassion and Fascination”. By displaying Buddhist Stone Sculptures and some Buddhist Cultural Relics, the exhibition introduces the basic facts of Chang’an Buddhism and shows the importance of Chang’an Buddhism in history. The exhibition hall covers an area of 640 square meters and displays more than 120 cultural relics.


There is an exhibition called “Le Ju Chang’an” in the museum, which means lived happily in Chang’an. The exhibition mainly shows people’s lives in ancient Xi’an by displaying some cultural relics. The most precious one is Pushou. Pushou is the component on the door of ancient Chinese architecture. It includes two parts: one is the circular chassis made of copper or iron; another is the door knocker used for knocking on the door.

The extant Jianfu Temple was renovated in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the layout of the temple continues to be the same as when it was repaired during the Ming Dynasty. The temple buildings are concentrated on the central axis between the Nanshan Gate and the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. From south to the north, there are Nanshan Gate, the Bell Tower and Drum Tower, the Cishi Pavilion, the Daxiong Hall, the Depository of Buddhist Sutras, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, and the Baiyi Pavilion. Anymore, there are many art-folk exhibitions.

The Small Wild Goose Pagoda

The original name is “Jian Fu Pagoda”. It was first built in AD 707, located in the Jianfu Temple of Chang’an City. It was built in order to collect the Buddhism scriptures and Buddha figures. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda was a part of the Jianfu Temple. Because of the war, Jianfu Temple was destroyed but the Small Wild Goose Pagoda was kept.

 

How to Get to Xi’an Museum

By Bus

Take bus18, 21, 29, 32, 40, 203, 204, 218, 224, 229, 258, 407, 410, 521, 618, or 700 and get off at Xiaoyanta Station (Small Wild Goose Pagoda).
 

Take bus 18, 203, 204, 218, 407, 410, 229, or 258 and get off at Xiajiazhuang Station.

By Subway

Take metro line 2 and get off at the Nanshaomen Station.
 

By Taxi

If you go to the Xi'an Museum from the Xi'an Railway Station, it takes about 30 minutes (about 22 yuan).


If you go to the Xi'an Museum from the Xi'an South Railway Station, it takes about 60 minutes (about 75 yuan).


If you go to the Xi'an Museum from the Xi'an North Railway Station, it takes about 75 minutes (about 65 yuan).
