Great Tang All Day Mall is located at the foot of Big Wild Goose Pagoda in Yanta District, Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. It is a cultural and commercial street. It stretches from the South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the north to the Tang City Wall in the south. On the east-west direction, this cultural street extends from Ci’en East Road in the east to Ci’en West Road in the west. With a length of 2,100 meters and a width of 500 meters, Great Tang All Day Mall covers a total area of 650,000 square meters.
 

With the prosperous cultures and diverse elements of the Tang Dynasty as the theme, Great Tang All Day Mall is divided into four squares: Big Wild Goose Pagoda North Square, Xuanzang Square, Zhenguan Square and New Era Square. It owns four cultural venues including Xi’an Concert Hall, Shaanxi Opera House, Xi’an Art Museum and Qujiang Pacific Cineplex. Besides, in Great Tang All Day Mall, there are five representative sculptures including Great Tang Buddha culture, Great Tang Elites, Zhenguan Period, Emperor Wu and Her Servants and Kaiyuan Flourishing Age. History of Great Tang All Day Mall

In the late 1990s, the idea of constructing the Qujiang River Tourist Scenic Area was first proposed. Zhang Jinqiu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, planned and designed the layout of “Seven Parks, One Mall and One Tower” in the Qujiang River core area, of which the tower is the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the mall refers to Great Tang All Day Mall. It went into service in April 2009.

Theme Sculptures

The central axis scenic avenue of Great Tang All Day Mall is a 2,100-meter central sculpture pedestrian street. It is the largest scenic avenue in Asia. Along the street, there are many sculptures, which take the stories of historical figures, heroes and emperors as the theme. Combining with the modern water system, lighting system and three-dimensional transportation system, the nine groups of sculptures reproduce the flourishing of the Tang Dynasty from the aspects of religion, science and technology, literature and art.

Zhenguan Square is named after the Zhenguan Period, the flourishing years of the Tang Dynasty. As the core area of Great Tang All Day Mall, Zhenguan Square consists of four groups of cultural and artistic buildings including Xi’an Opera House, Xi’an Concert Hall, Qujiang River Art Museum and Qujiang River Pacific Cineplex.
 

Kaiyuan Square

With a length of 161 meters and a width of 78 meters, Kaiyuan Square is a must-visit attraction on the central axis of Great Tang All Day Mall. It covers an area of about 12,200 square meters. A group of sculptures that are related to the Kaiyuan Period of the Tang Dynasty (AD712--AD741) and eight LED lamp coiled dragon pillars are set up on the square.

With a total height of 12.95 meters, the theme sculpture group of the prosperous Kaiyuan Period is composed of 78 figures. The statue on top of the whole sculpture group is Emperor Xuanzong, in front of which there is a huge circular wall. It is 4.59 meters high, representing the most esteemed position in ancient China. On the second floor of the sculpture group, there are 6 statues, which represent the most important government officials in the Tang Dynasty, and 20 statues representing the envoys from foreign countries. On the bottom floor, there are 42 music performers playing various instruments.

Empress Wu and Her Servants

During the reign of Emperor Wu Zetian (690-705), the status of women was raised to an unprecedented level, and women were allowed to participate in many things that were previously only available to men like becoming officials. This group of sculptures named “Empress Wu and Her Servants” vividly shows the majestic demeanor of Wu Zetian, who is surrounded by a group of female officials dressed in men’s clothes. This group of sculptures is designed based on the famous painting “Empress Wu and Her Servants” by the Tang Dynasty painter Zhang Xuan.
 

The Flourishing Zhenguan Period

“The Flourishing Zhenguan Period” is the most spectacular group of sculptures on the pedestrian street. The man riding a horse is Emperor Taizong, who initiated the rule of Zhenguan during the Tang Dynasty (627-649). Emperor Taizong made great reforms in personnel appointments and dismissals, policies and laws, agriculture, military administration, and so on, giving rise to the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty.
 

Great Tang Elites Group

Located in the northern part of the pedestrian street, Great Tang Elites Group is the most important sculpture group in the Great Tang All Day Mall. When it comes to the Tang Dynasty, most people will think of Tang poetry and famous poets such as Li Bai and Du Fu. Tang Dynasty is considered as the most prosperous period in the long Chinese history when literature, art, painting, calligraphy and even religion showed unprecedented vigor. “Great Tang Elites Group” is a group of sculptures commemorating elites of the Tang Dynasty and their representative works in the field of literature and art.

 

How to Get to Great Tang All Day Mall

By Bus

Take Qujiang River Tourism Circular Line, Huanshan Tourist Bus No. 1, Huanshan Tourist Bus No. 2, and get off at Big Wild Goose Pagoda Station.
 

Take Bus No. 5, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 30, 34, 41, 44, 189, 224, 242, 307, 400, 401, 408, 500, 501, 521, 526, 601, 606, 609, 701, Tourist Bus No. 6, 8, 9, All Day Bus No. 4, or Shiyuan No. 5 and get off at Big Wild Goose Pagoda Station.
 

By Subway

Take Metro Line 3 or Line 4, and get off at Big Wild Goose Pagoda Station.
 

By Taxi
