Brief Introduction of Tianjin Mosque

Tianjin Mosque is an ancient Islam temple and a key cultural relic protection unit in Tianjin. It integrates Chinese palace-style architecture and Islamic architecture with a unique style. The building area of the worship house is about 1,000 square meters, which can accommodate nearly 1,000 people to worship at the same time. The most famous treasures at the mosque are the two pocket copies of the Koran in the temple collection, one is 8.5 square centimeters and the other is only 4 square centimeters, which is exquisite.

 

History of Tianjin Mosque

Tianjin Mosque was built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

In 1679, it had been expanded with the worship house enlarged.

In 1801, it had been expanded again. Since then, many renewal projects had been carried out.

In 1852, more than 300 square meters of bathrooms were added.

In 1865, two pavilions were built, and two gatehouses were built in the north and south.

In 1905, a tall screen wall was built opposite the main entrance.

In 1909, two stone tablets were erected in the frontcourt of the worship house.

After the Cultural Revolution and the earthquake of 1976, it was almost destroyed.

In July 1980 it was reopened after major renovations.

Tianjin Mosque is one of the mosques with abundant ancient boards and couplets. A total of 31 Qing Dynasty Chinese character plaques and eight couplets were hung in the temple.
 

In the nearly 300 years of the Qing Dynasty, the temple preserved so many calligraphy treasures, which are rare in the country, and they were praised as the Qing Dynasty calligraphy exhibition by the cultural circles. It not only collects plaques of Chinese characters but also Arabic scripture plaques by princes of the Qing Dynasty, Hui officials and scholars, as well as social sages at that time.
 

New Temple

It is located on the north side of Dafeng Road. It was built in 2005 and has an Arabic architectural style. The star-rated Muslim Hotel on its south side has a building area of 5000 square meters and has both food and accommodation. The nearby Islamic Style Street sells special commodities, crafts, and so on.

 

Warm Tips

1. Non-Muslims are not allowed to enter the mosque if they are topless or wearing short skirts or shorts.

2. Please do not wear shoes to enter the main hall.

3. Please do not shout or move around when Muslims are praying.

4. Muslims believe that the left hand is unclean, so you should not use your left hand when you are shaking hands or delivering goods with them.

Take 12, 600, 631, 639, 903, 906, 952 and get off at Xibeijiao Station, and walk 500 meters.

Take Metro Line 1 and get off at Xibeijiao Station (Exit A) and walk 440 meters.
