Overview of Zhangshiyan Scenic Area

The Overall View

Located in the southwest of Zanhuang County of Shijiazhuang in Hebei Province, Zhangshiyan Scenic Area covers an area of 120 square meters and has an altitude of 1774 meters. Zhangshiyan Scenic Area is a national key scenic spot in China. It is the magnificent landscape characteristics that make it the essence in the South-Central section of Taihang Mountain. The biggest feature of Zhangshiyan Scenic Area lies in its landform. The Zhangshiyan landform named after Zhangshiyan, Danxia landform, and Zhangjiajie landform are called the top three sandstone landforms in China. They are the best-preserved and the most typical landform relics in the world.
 

The Zhangshiyan Scenic Area is stunningly famous for red cliff, green ridge, lofty peak, and deep and secluded valley. It comprises four independent scenic spots, namely Nine-girl Peak, Yuantong Temple, Zhihutao, and Donglingbei.
 

Maple Leaves Scenery

The Zhangshiyan Scenic Area is charming all year round. Visitors can have a taste of its different beauty in different seasons. Especially in summer, it is a good summer resort for those who can not put up with hot weather. What deserves mentioning is that Zhangshiyan Scenic Area has a good natural ecological environment, with a forest area about 98％and 654 varieties of plants in 98 families. The biological diversity is one of the curiosities in Zhangshiyan Scenic Area. Thus, it is home to a large number of precious species because of its pure natural oxygen and rich rainfall.
 

Various activities are held here every year: appreciating the beauty of rhododendrons from March to May; picking red leaves in October; the climbing competition taking place in September according to the lunar calendar (Double Ninth Festival); playing in the snow and watching the icicle festival show in December.
 

Moreover, night recreations are colorful. Travelers can join singing and dancing parties, take part in bonfires, and watch folk art performances.
 

Zhangshiyan Scenic Area was listed as the third batch of National Key Scenic Spot in 1994, National Geological Park in 2004, and AAAA Level Tourist Area in 2005.

Famous Attractions at Zhangshiyan Scenic Area

Nine-fairy Peak

Nine-fairy Peak

The Nine-fairy Peak is located in the east of Zhangshiyan Scenic Area, famous for nine mountain peaks which are like fairies. The first thing jumping to one’s eyes is Shiren Spring after one entering the Nine-fairy Peak scenic spot. It covers an area of 60 square meters which never dry up. There are 3 scenic spots in its vicinity, Sanxiannao, Diquan and Rhododendron Slope. Sanxiannao has an altitude of 1508 meters, a good place for a mountain view. Diquan is famous for cool and sweet spring water. Rhododendron Slope is full of flowers all over the slope, which is attractive to visitors.
                                                                                                                         

Yuantong Temple

The Yuantong Temple scenic spot is located in the southwest of Zhangshiyan Scenic Area, famous for Yuantong Temple. After arriving at the parking lot of Zhangshiyan, walking to the west to Bajiao Gate, then continue walking 500 meters. And then one can see a giant stone, where it was said to be the Dabao monk of Yuantong Temple lecturing sutra in the Ming Dynasty.
 

Donglingbei Scenic Spot

Zhihutao

The Zhihutao scenic spot is located in the west of Xigetai Village of Zhangshiyan Scenic Area.The natural echo wall is the biggest one in the world. Apart from the natural echo wall, there are many famous attractions, such as Huaiquan Temple, which was built in the Tang Dynasty and rebuilt in Yuan and Ming Dynasties.
 

Donglingbei

The Donglingbei is well-known for its spectacular big icicles which up to 30 meters in winter when water cascades down the cliff.

Zhangshiyan Scenic Area

Zhangshiyan Scenic Area is worth visiting all year round. There are more people in summer and autumn, followed by spring and winter. Summer and autumn are the best time to travel to the Zhangshiyan Scenic Area. In summer(June to August), green trees, cool weather, and beautiful summer scenery are attractive to travelers. Autumn is also the best time to admire the beauty of red autumnal leaves.
 

Please notice that when visiting Zhangshiyuan Scenic Area, one must take a raincoat rather than an umbrella and wear the skidproof sneaker. In summer, it is necessary to take the Florida water.

Transportation to Zhangshiyan Scenic Area

By Bus

Take a bus 30 in Shijiazhuang urban area, and get off at Nanjiao Bus Sation, then take the Zanhuang bus, and get off at Zanhuang Station, finally take the Zhangshiyan bus and get off at Zhangshiyan Station.

By Taxi

If you go to Zhangshiyan Scenic Area from Shijiazhuang urban area by taxi, it takes about 2 hours(about 230 yuan).
