The Sculpture of Luhuitou

The name Luhuitou, which means “the deer turning its head back”, is derived from a touching love legend.

In ancient times, a handsome young hunter of Li nationality, with a red scarf on his head and a bow and arrows in his hands, climbed over 99 mountains and 99 rivers from Wuzhi Mountain to the South China Sea to catch up with the deer. Under the Coral Cliff ahead is the boundless sea, where there is no way to go.

The deer stopped suddenly and looked back on the cliff. The deer’s eyes are clear and beautiful, sad, and emotional. The young hunter was about to put down his bow and arrows, suddenly, the fire flashed, and the smoke soared into the air. The deer turned its head back and turned into a beautiful girl walking toward the hunter. They fell in love at first sight. Soon after, they got married and settled down. After generations of efforts, they have developed coral cliff into a beautiful farm. From then on, this romantic hill was called “Luhuitou”.

“Luhuitou” sculpture is built according to this beautiful love legend of Li Nationality in Hainan. It is 15 meters high, the highest sculpture in Hainan Island, and is the landmark sculpture of Sanya. Therefore, Sanya also called “Lucheng”.

Standing next to the parking lot in Luhuitou Park, the carved stone was inscribed by general Zhang Aiping, former Minister of Defense. The front of the stone carving faces the deer sculpture and the highway, and the back faces a panoramic view of Sanya.

In particular, you can have a close view of the magnificent scenery of the river mouth and sea entrance, besides, you can also enjoy the scenery of Luhuitou Square. The “Love At First Sight” here can express love for the lover, love for the great rivers and mountains of the motherland, and love for the beautiful scenery of Sanya.

Huge Carved Stone

On the top of Luhuitou Mountain, there is a huge stone, one in half. Half stands proudly on the top of the mountain, and half lies flat at the foot, stretching out into the sea. The locals call it the Companion Stone.

It is said that a woman usually stood at the top of the mountain to wait for her lover who went to hunt and gradually she turned into a standing stone. After her lover came back, he ran to the top of the mountain after knowing that, knelt beside the girl’s stone, and vowed to depend on each other. Therefore, he turned into a flat stone, hoping that when his lover was tired, she could rest on him as her companion.
