Built in the early 1960s, Haigeng Park is located in the southern suburb of Kunming city, the Spring City in Yunnan Province, and beside the Dianchi Lake, “pearl of the plateau”. It is about 10km away from the center of Kunming. Haigeng Park is about 2.5km long and 200m wide, with an area of around 50 hectares.
Haigeng Park was rebuilt after the establishment of Kunming Dianchi National Tourist Resort in 1992, integrating tourism and recreation, and carrying forward the historical culture and cultural landscapes of Dianchi Lake.
Haigeng Park is a wonderful natural park for people to relax on holidays. Sea viewing corridor, green lawn, gorgeous cherry blossom, tens of thousands of flying seagulls, luxury yacht, and seaside leisure square, all of these construct a harmonious and romantic environment between human and nature.
Haigeng Park welcomes people from all over the world to get together and spend a warm and romantic holiday here. The ancients called Dianchi Lake “the sea”. Nowadays, the ten miles long causeway, the fast boats, the white spray, the blue sky and water, the green grass and fresh air still show us the special ambience which usually can be felt by the seaside. Here you can deeply feel that "the sky is high and the clouds are light; the sea is wide and the mind is broad".
Haigeng means the causeway of Dianchi Lake, dividing the lake into two. It is 5km long and 60m to 300m wide. The whole causeway naturally forms four scenic areas: the east section is the national sports winter training base; the central section is the bathing beach with gentle slope and soft beach; the west section is a park, where you can enjoy the scenery of water and Xishan Mountain; the north section is a wetland for sanatorium and tourist center.
Among the numerous scenic spots in Kunming, the moon at Dianchi Lake is pure and natural, fantastic and changeable. The ink paintings with the moon and the magnificent and spectacular views at Dianchi Lake, such as the “Colorful Clouds Chasing the Moon” and “The Sleeping Beauty Mountain under the Moon”, have always been deeply loved by the literati . In the early Ming Dynasty, the poet Jixian called it "Night Moon at Dianchi Lake" and included it in his book, Six Scenic Spots of Dianyang. Zhang Shilian in the Qing Dynasty painted it as the first painting of Eight Sceneries of Kunming, which attracted many literati to compose poems and inscriptions. Now it has become a traditional custom in Kunming that people go to Haigeng Park to enjoy the bright moon at Dianchi Lake on Mid-Autumn Festival.
The thousands of willows in the park have witnessed 30 years of vicissitudes in Haigeng Park. In spring, willows sprout and the earth is covered with vivid green. The willow catkins all over the sky flutter in the wind, forming a picture full of spring.
You can see the gorgeous Sleeping Beauty Mountain at Haigeng Park. You can imagine a magnificent picture, a sleeping beauty with clear face and graceful curve in the beautiful sunset. The scenery in four seasons is various, beautiful and harmonious.
Come into the park, and you will find two centurial aged eucalyptus trees intertwining, one straight and tall, the other pretty and graceful. They are like a pair of faithful lovers, gazing at the Dianchi Lake hand in hand.
