Hu Qing Yu Tang Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine, first founded in 1874 during the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912) by Hu Xueyan, is a traditional pharmacy reputed as “Medicine King in the South of the Yangtze River” and as famous as Tongrentang, the largest producer of traditional Chinese medicine in Beijing. 
 

Hu Qing Yu Tang Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine, located at Dajing Lane, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is one of China’s museums specialized in traditional medicine.


History of Hu Qing Yu Tang Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine


In October 1987, Hu Qing Yu Tang Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine was set up on the 115th anniversary of the founding of the Hangzhou Hu Qing Yu Tang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. 

 

In 1988, it was listed as one of the major historical and cultural sites protected at the national level, covering an area of 2,700 square meters.
 

In 1991, Hu Qing Yu Tang Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine was opened to the public.

There are a few plaques and carvings used to decorate the old and well-designed building. Among them, the most well-known plaque is “Refraining from Cheating”. 
 

When Hu Xueyan first founded Hu Qing Yu Tang, he inscribed it on the plaque, aiming to tell his staff the business principle that medicine means a lot to people’s life, and cheating is strictly forbidden.
 

The business credibility worshiped by Hu Qing Yu Tang for over one hundred years is the foundation of its steady development.

1. Hu Qing Yu Tang has its own staff to offer bilingual explanations about the museum of traditional Chinese medicine without charge at 09:15, 10:15, 13:15, 14:15 and 15:15.

2. The time for the performances is not fixed exactly and the pharmaceutical workers will perform when tourists come into the workshop.
