The Main Entrance

Hangzhou Zoo, established in 1958, is one of the seven major zoos in China. It is located in the south of West Lake, at the foot of the Baihe Peak of Daci Mountain. Covering an area of 200,000 square meters, Hangzhou Zoo is adjacent to Liuhe Pagoda in the south, and Hangzhou Children Park in the north.

There are more than 2,000 rare wild animals of more than 200 species, such as the Siberian tiger, Asian elephant, white-cheeked gibbon, chimpanzee, python, blue peafowl, red-crowned crane, and giraffe. Hangzhou Zoo receives more than 1 million tourists annually. In Hangzhou Zoo, you can enjoy an elegant environment with shades of trees.

Top Highlights to See at Hangzhou Zoo

Panda House

Pandas Eating

The Panda House can be regarded as the most popular place in Hangzhou Zoo. It was built in the 1970s and still retains its quaint style at that time. Giant pandas and red pandas live in the Panda House, both of which are unique to China and are loved by domestic and foreign tourists. Although they are called pandas with similar names, and they are cold-resistant animals, they are two very different animals.

In the Giant Panda House once lived 12 lovely pandas from Chengdu, including Yingying, Chengcheng, Chengjiu, Shuanghao, Chengda, and Chengxiao, the last two of which are now living in the Panda House. There are also eight lively and lovely red pandas in the Red Panda House.

Rare Bird Yard

Peafowls Spreading Tail Feather

Featured with small bridges, flowing water, and ancient vines, the Rare Bird Yard owns the standard Jiangnan courtyard style(Jiangnan generally refers to the southern region of the lower reaches of Yangtze River). One side of the secluded promenade is an elegant garden for rare birds. On the other side is the mandarin duck pond. And here you can see the peafowls spreading their tail feathers, the golden pheasants dancing dazzlingly, and the birds vying for beauty. This kind of scene gives you a feeling that as if you are in a vivid picture.

The rare bird museum itself resembles classical Chinese paintings of flowers, birds, mountains, and stones, so it is also the best choice for painting-lovers to enjoy the pleasure.
