Then, you will visit Mutianyu Great Wall by round way cable car. As the best-preserved part of the Great Wall, the Mutianyu section was built in the Northern Qi (550-577) and rebuilt in the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), being 5,400 meters long. It used to serve as a protector to defend nomad invasion, with watchtowers densely equipped along the wall. About 22 watchtowers are placed on the 2,250-meter-long stretch. Besides, Mutianyu Great Wall is surrounded by a layer of mountains, with forest cover being more than 90%. In spring, the mountains are dotted with a mass of blooming flowers; in summer, the forests are bustling with life and green leaves cover the trees; in autumn, the leaves are tinged with red and the mountains teem with fully ripened grains; in winter, the snow-capped mountains are white, which is a kind of northern scenery. Therefore, the Great Wall in Mutianyu is allegedly one of the 16 famous attractions in Beijing.
On top of its engaging landscape, it also boasts a heartbreaking story. As the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty (221 BC-207BC) wanted to build a wall to prevent northern peoples on horseback from attacking its people, lots of workers were needed. And lady Mengjiang’s husband was one of them. After her husband was recruited to complete the construction, she missed him very much so that she traveled miles to see him. Unluckily, when she arrived at where her husband worked, she was told that her husband had died and his body was under the Great Wall. Sadly enough, she cried for three days and nights. It was said that when the Great Wall collapsed she stopped crying. If you are interested in the story, you can ask your guide for more details.
After that, you will be driven back to the hotel.
