The Ancient Nanfeng Kiln was built in 1506 with a history of more than 500 years. It is a National 4A Class Tourist Spot and is one of the major historical and cultural sites protected at the national level. The Ancient Nanfeng Kiln has been recorded in the Guinness World Records.
The Ancient Nanfeng Kiln looks like a giant dragon descending from the sky, so local people called it “Long Kiln” (Long means dragon in Chinese). Potters rely on dragon kilns to burn products to feed their families. They think that the kilns are as important as the “stoves” at home. In addition, the stove mouth of this long kiln is facing the south, and there is a cool breeze in summer, so it is called “Nanfeng Kiln”.
In December 1999 and May 2000, the Ancient Nanfeng Kiln Tourist Area held two large-scale international events, “Towards the New Century--Millennium Firing Event of the Contemporary Chinese Ceramicists” and “International Wood Firing Ceramics Seminar”. Many Chinese and foreign tourists come to visit, study and entertain. The Ancient Nanfeng Kiln Tourist Area was officially opened to receive tourists in 2000.
The Shiwan Ceramic Art Museum is the first industry museum in Guangdong Province with the theme of ceramic culture. The dynamic display area preserves the two wood-fired ancient long kilns (dragon kilns) of the historical and cultural sites, Ancient Nanfeng Kiln and Gao Kiln. The static exhibition area is dominated by ceramic historical and cultural exhibitions, divided into five exhibition halls.
The Million Dream Wall is the biggest artistic creativity of the Ancient Nanfeng Kiln. It is composed of all ambitious people using paintings, texts, fingerprints, and other methods you can think of to put their ideas on a ceramic plate, and then burn out and build it into a “Million Dream Wall”.
The wall aims to collect 1 million dreams and make 1 million colored sand pottery bricks. The brick surface will be created for free by students, citizens, artists, and enterprises in the Ancient Nanfeng Kiln.
