Madame Tussauds Chongqing is located at the intersection of Yangtze River and Jialing River, opposite to Jiefangbei CBD and Jiangbei CBD, facing Chongqing Grand Theater and overlooking Chaotianmen Square. The venue covers an area of about 2,000 square meters, with an average tour time of 1-2 hours. It was officially opened on September 10, 2016. It lets Chongqing citizens have the opportunity to contact directly international first-line stars such as Andy Lau, Fan Bingbing and Michael Jordan.
There are eight theme exhibition areas in the venue, including “Universal TV”, “Sports Heroes”, “TV Studio”, “World Leaders”, “World Civilization”, “Backstage Tour”, “Musical Pioneer” and “World’s Top Star Party”, from which people can feel the collision and passion brought by the multiple cultures and celebrities from the whole world.
Barry Cox, director of new business development in Asia area of Merlin Entertainment Group, said that Madame Tussauds Chongqing will be the 1st in Southwest China, the 5th in China and the 16th in the world. The implementation of the project in Chongqing will greatly enrich the connotation of Chongqing’s tourism and enhance its international city image, which is an important witness to the development of Chongqing’s tourism industry and the promotion of its city status.
As for the size of the Madame Tussauds Chongqing, it is not composed of three floors, the basement and five exhibition floors, which has been hotly discussed on the microblog before. The person in charge of Hong Kong Land(a Hong Kong company) said that the specific size of the exhibition hall would be determined according to the later planning of changjiahui business cluster.
On April 8, 2016, Liu Xiaoqing, a famous actress in China, unveiled her wax figure. This wax figure is Liu Xiaoqing’s role in the Chinese television series “The Shadow of Empress Wu” in 2006. The classic image of Wu Zetian was created by British artists. Liu Xiaoqing, a Chongqing native, became the first celebrity in Madame Chongqing.
The exterior architectural style of the building reproduces the unique historical features of ancient Chongqing. The area for sightseeing in the museum is divided into two floors. From the entrance to the first exhibition area, the first thing coming into your sight is the wax statue of Chongqing film queen Liu Xiaoqing, who is deeply loved by the audience. She, dressed in Empress Wu Zetian’s costume, welcomes every visitor with her great vigor.
Around the goddess Liu Xiaoqing, Dazu Stone Carvings Scenery, one of the ten cultural symbols of Chongqing, is specially set.
In the “Universal TV” exhibition area, Madame Tussauds Chongqing has carefully restored film scenes for tourists to recall and relive classic scenes.
