Our wonderful journey will begin with mountain climbing. Lantau Island is the biggest island in Hong Kong, China, with an area of 147 square kilometers, being almost two times as large as Hong Kong’s second-biggest island, Hong Kong Island. First, we will arrive at the mountainside of the Phoenix Mountain, the mainpeak of Lantau Island, by Ngong Ping Cable Car. The cable car connects Ngong Ping with Tung Chung town center in Lantau Island, with a total length of 5.7 kilometers.
The cable car starts from Tung Chung Skyline Terminal, runs above the Tung Chung Bay, and finally reaches North Lantau Island. Its track forms a 60-degree angle in the sky. You can overlook the beautiful landscape from the cable car. A double-cable system is adopted and makes your journey safer. There are three classes of cars available: standard cabins, crystal cabins, and private cabins. The crystal cabin is transparent and you can fully enjoy the green mountains there. If you choose a private cabin, you may buy a cable car ticket without standing in line and get the first chance to use the cabin, which makes your trip more convenient and pleasant.
Then we will visit the Po Lin Monastery, a Buddhist monastery. The monastery has been famous for its Giant Bronze Buddha, the biggest seated bronze Buddha statue in the world. The big Buddha is a statue of Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, with its body being 26.4 meters and its base7.55 meters high. This Buddha, in its design and construction, integrates ancient culture and modern art and combines traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology. It covers an area of about 6,567 square meters and weighs 250,000 kg. The people of Hong Kong attach great importance to the Giant Bronze Buddha, because it symbolizes the prosperity of Hong Kong and world peace. To protect it, scientific techniques and equipment are adopted so that this bronze Buddha cannot be destroyed by lightning or typhoon, nor can it be corroded by winds of the sea and salt fog. The base of this statue is a three-story building and houses a bell on which images of Buddha and scriptures are carved. This bell rings every 7 minutes and totally rings 108 times every day, symbolizing that it helps people get rid of 108 troubles.
After lunch, we will have a rest and then visit Tai O village, the most famous fishing village in Hong Kong that enjoys the reputation of “Oriental Venice”. Even today, the major form of transportation here is taking boats, making the village a quiet place and helping you find inner peace. In addition, we will provide you with a relaxing experience of taking a sampan so that you can experience this old form of transportation and enjoy the scenery in a dynamic way at the same time.
In the morning, we will go to Victoria Peak, one of Hong Kong’s best tourist attractions. Its Peak Tower was the masterpiece of the famous British architect Terry Farrel, in the shape of a bowl. You can come here for sightseeing, entertainment or shopping. You can also visit Madame Tussaud’s museum here. The picture of the beautiful peak has been used by millions of postcards. We will go to the peak by peaktram. The peak tramstarted operation in 1888and connects the Garden Road and the Victoria Gap. Itis the first motorized public transport when Hong Kong was first colonized and the first funicular railway in Asia.
After that, we will visit Wong Tai Sin Temple, located in Kowloon East, Wong Tai Sin District. It is not a temple for a single religion, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism are all developed here. Therefore, it is characterized by an integration of the most popular beliefs. Hong Kong people often say that Wong Tai Sin gives responses to every prayer. And it is powerful enough to predict one’s fortune as the financial crisis in 1997 and SARA in 2003 were both indicated by its shortest straw. People in Hong Kong believe that this temple works very well and there are always many prayers every day. Nine incenses are provided without any charge for every visitor. You can burn the incenses, make a wish, and then get a Chinese fortune stick that will show whether you will achieve the wish you have just made. Of course, making a wish here does not mean that we reject science. It is just a way to show people’s hope for life.
In the afternoon, we will go to Macau by ferry. When you arrive, your guide will pick you up and then you will be transferred to your hotel.
After breakfast, we will go to the first spot in Macau, Ruins of St. Paul’s Church, one of the landmark buildings in Macau, designed by an Italian priest and completed with the assistance of Japanese artisans. It was once the biggest Catholic Church in the east. Combined with other cultural relics in the Historic Centre of Macau, it was rated as a part of United Nations World Cultural Heritage. The building integrates European architectural style during Renaissance withthe Eastern architectural style. The church of “baroque” style is about 27 meters high and 23.5 meters wide, including 5 floors.
The next tourist attraction in the morning is A-ma Temple with a history of over 500 years. Legend has it that there was a young lady named A-ma in Fujian Province in the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279). She was born with the ability of divination and thus helped fishermen dodge disasters at sea. Even after her death, her spirit often appears when people suffer marine perils. Because of her braveness and mercy, she was made “Guardian of the Sea”. In the 1980s, the United Nations awarded the title of Goddess of Peace to A-ma. A-ma Temple was built to worship her. The temple shows the characteristics of Chinese national architecture. The gate of the temple is made of granite and shows an archway style, being 4.5 meters wide. The gate is carved with characters expressing people’s expectations for the future.
After lunch we will first go to Macau Tower, a member of the World Federation of Great Towers, to enjoy the landscape of Macau. The tower covers an area of about 13,400 square meters with a total height of 338 meters. It is higher than the Eiffel Tower in Paris and is the eighth highest free-standing sightseeing tower in the world, the highest one in Southeast Asia. The building of the tower took 3 years and 1 billion pataca. It serves as a place for sightseeing, conference, and entertainment. Then we will go to Senado Square, one of Macau’s Four Squares. It was originally used as a place where officers in the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) and Portuguese in Macau negotiated their trades. Many of the buildings around Senado Square are of a European look. They have great aesthetic value in architectural art and are valuable cultural relics.
After breakfast, we will send you to Macau Airport based on your schedule or take ferry with you to Hong Kong and see you off at Hongkong Airport. We are looking forward to serving you again.
