Free time Suggestion: Sanlitun Bar Street
If you want to experience the Chinese bar culture, you can go to the Sanlitun Bar Street. It is the most popular street for young people to spend the colorful nighttime. You can find any type of bars here, such as pole dancing bar, Gay bar, leisure bar, and bars only for drinking. Besides, it is also a place where it is easy to meet Chinese celebrities. If you are lucky, you may encounter the celebrities.
After breakfast, we will head to the Tian’anmen Square. Tiananmen Square, located on the center of Beijing, is 880 meters long and 500 meters wide, with an area of 440,000 square meters. It is the largest city square in the world, which can accommodate 1 million people for grand events. The Monument to the People's Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the Museum of the Chinese Revolution, the Chinese History Museum, and the Memorial Hall of Chairman Mao are all located here. Besides, the flag-raising ceremony is held here every morning. The flag will rise slowly with the sunrise, accompanied by the rousing Chinese national anthem. If you want to watch the flag-raising ceremony, be sure to reach the square before sunrise.
Next, we will head to the Forbidden City (closed on Mondays). The Forbidden City is a royal palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties(1368-1912), located in the central axis of Beijing. The Forbidden City is centered on three major halls and covers an area of about 720,000 square meters. There are more than seventy large and small palaces and more than nine thousand rooms. When you walk in the Forbidden City, you will find many bronze lions, bronze cranes, etc., among which, the two bronze lions in the front of the Qianqing Gate are different from the others. As the ears of the two lions are drooping. The Qianqing Gate separates the inner court and outer court. The inner court is the place that the royal concubines live in and the outer court is the place for dealing with the affairs of the country. In ancient times, the emperor ordered the concubines not to intervene in the affairs in the outer court and the officials not to step into the inner court. So the design of the drooping ears is to warn the concubines not to ask about the political affairs.
After lunch, we will go to the Summer Palace. It was a royal garden during the Qing Dynasty(1636-1912). It is situated in the western suburbs of Beijing, covering an area of 2.97 square kilometers. It is one of the best-preserved royal palaces. The Summer Palace mainly consists of two parts: Wanshou Mountain and Kunming Lake. The representative buildings in it include the Foxiang Pavilion, the Long Corridor, the Suzhou Street, the Seventeen-arch Bridge and the Grand Opera House. Among those buildings, the Long Corridor is 728 meters long and has 273 sections decorated with more than 14,000 colorful paintings. These paintings have different themes, such as figures, landscapes, flowers and birds, which show you a vivid and three-dimensional effect. Among those paintings, about 200 colorful figure paintings are based on Chinese folk legends, Chinese mythological stories and Chinese classical literature, showing you the five thousand years of Chinese history. After breakfast, we will drive about 1.2 hours(60KM) to the Juyongguan Great Wall. It is located in the northwest of Beijing. The Juyongguan Great Wall is built in a 15-kilometer valley with overlapping mountains and lush trees on both sides. Before climbing the Great Wall, you will see a white-stone-made Tibetan Buddhist building named Yuntai at the bottom of the scenic area. You can see beautiful and unique statues of Bodhisattva inside Yuntai. Next, it is time to climb the Great Wall. It usually takes 2-3 hours to complete the hiking on the whole section of Juyongguan Great Wall. In ancient times, the emperor regarded this as a “holy decree” issued by the Jade Emperor(the leader of all the immortals in the heavenly palace) to the mortal world. Today, your China honeymoon tour in Sanya will begin with the attraction of Dadonghai Scenic Area. Dadonghai is the closest bay to downtown Sanya.
