Location

Xining, located in the east of Qinghai province and the northeast of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, is partof northwest China.

History

Xining (Qingtang City)

The city of Qingtang is in today’s Xining city which was called Shancheng in Tang Dynasty(618-907). Surrounded by mountains, Qingtang city is an important town on the South Silk Road and the TangTibet Ancient Road.

Religion

Five major religions coexist, namely Buddhism, Islam, Taoism, Christianity and Catholicism. Tibetan Buddhism and Islam have a particularly far-reaching influence on the local. Kumbum is one of the six temples of Tibetan Buddhism in China and Xining Dongguan Mosque is one of the four mosques in northwest China.

It’s a folk drama in which silhouette figures are made from animal skin or pasteboard to act out the stories.

Qinghai is the hometown of “Huar”. The Han, Tibetan, Hui, Tu, Salar and other people of all nationalities who live here, no matter they are working in the fields, herding animals in the mountains, going out to work or driving on the road, they always sing a few words of “Huar” in their spare time.
