Chengdu Botanical Garden covers an area of 420,000 square meters. It is a National AAA Tourist Scenery Area, a popular science education base in Sichuan Province, and an environmental protection education base in Chengdu.
Chengdu Botanical Garden has made outstanding achievements in the fields of garden plants, flower cultivation, breeding pest control, plant germplasm gene transfer protection, plant introduction and domestication. More than a hundred kinds of hibiscus that the garden cultivated have been widely planted in other major cities, including Beijing, Hangzhou, and Nanjing.
After more than 30 years of history, Chengdu Botanical Garden, preserving more than 2,000 species of plants, has developed into a comprehensive botanical garden integrating scientific research, popularization of science, tourism, and leisure services.
In 1999, it was rated as the first provincial popular science education base.
In December 2001, it was awarded the new provincial popular science education base again.
In 2014, it was awarded “the 2014 National Popular Science Education Base”.
On October 11, 2018, the garden was selected into the list of National Primary and Secondary School Students Education Base for Research, Learning and Practice.
Popular Science Museum was built in 2008. It covers an area of more than 7,300 square meters and is the largest popular science museum with the theme of plants.
It serves not only as a window for young people to learn about plants and nature, but also a place to cultivate and enhance people’s awareness of ecological and environmental protection.
It consists of six theme exhibition halls, including five permanent exhibition halls (Sichuan Botanical Museum, Western Chengdu Garden, Stories of Growth, Novelties of the Botanical World, Plants and Humans) and one temporary exhibition hall, and three interactive areas.
