Tips:
The National Aquatics Center, better known as “Water Cube”, is one of the venues of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The venue is located on the west side of the axis of the Olympic Green, with the National Stadium (Bird's Nest) standing in the East.
The design concept of the Water Cube comes from the traditional Chinese culture, which in the philosophy of ancient Chinese the land is square while the sky is round.
The bubble-wrapped surface of the Water Cube is made by a kind of film named ETFE (Ethyl Tetra Fluoro Ethylene membrane). ETFE film is transparent, which means more natural light can transmit into the venue.
The design of the structure is based on the arrangement of a cell and the natural structure of soap bubbles. This design has never been applied in the architectural structure before. The interior of the Water Cube is a multi-story building. Standing on the grandstands of the Water Cube, visitors can have a wide view of milky white walls and turquoise-like swimming pools.
During the Olympics period, the venue was used for the swimming, diving and synchronized swimming and polo game and has witnessed the birth of 42 golden medals. Given this, the venue has been reputed as “Magic Water Cube” and “Aquatic Hall of Fame”.
After the Olympic Games, in order to make full use of the venue, the venue has been transferred into a multi-function court for popular swimming, international and domestic competition events, commercial activities and literary and artistic exhibitions.
With all its brilliant history and splendid activities to be experienced, by the end of 2019, Water Cube had attracted about 25.83 million visitors, 2.5 million swimmers and more than 1,600 events had been held in it.
On December 26, 2018, the Water Cube started its renovation project and was designed to become Ice Cube. The new Ice Cube could meet the need of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games as a venue for curling competition.
The Water Cube has been listed in the “Top 10 Musts for Tourists to Beijing”. Former IOC President Jacques Rogge had a high evaluation of the venue and praised the Water Cube as “a perfectly-equipped, widest open and best operated Olympic swimming venue.”
Water Park is one of China’s largest and most advanced indoor theme water amusement park. In 2020, the park was awarded the 2010 Innovation of the Year Award.
The park is a wonderful place for families with kids to go in summer. It has a total of ten water entertainment projects and a total of more than 20 slides for visitors to experience the joy of water entertainment. There are Asia's first 76-meter high Aqualoop, wandering drifting water line, wave raft rides, various tube slides and a huge Water Stage.
The warming-up pool is located on the west side of the Water Cube. Built-in full accordance with international competition standards, the pool is now divided into deep water areas (5 lanes) and shallow water areas (5 lanes).
Ozone disinfection and chlorine preparations are implemented as an auxiliary disinfection method to ensure the quality of the water. A cutting-edge ventilation system is also equipped in the Hall. The swimming pool has been opened to the public after the Olympics.
The Water Drop Theatre is located in the middle of the fourth floor of the South Building of the Water Cube. Adjacent to the Water Cube Discovery Hall and the Exhibition in Commemoration of the Swimming Events in Water Cube Hall, the theater can accommodate 150 people in an area of about 200 square meters.
The theater is equipped with cutting-edge laser digital projection equipment, which is developed by the Laser Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The theater is not only used for playing 3D films and laser high-definition films, but also can provide court for all kinds of commercial activities.
The multi-functional hall is situated at the comprehensive functional zone on the western side of the Water Cube. Covering an area of 2,400 square meters, the hall has a seating capacity of about 1,000 people. It has been used as a venue for exhibitions and conferences after the Olympics.
The exhibition demonstrates the construction process of the Water Cube. As the only Olympic venue built with donations from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan patriots and overseas Chinese, the Water Cube witnessed the solidarity of the Chinese nation.
The exhibition will bring visitors back to the first decade of the 21st century and share the stories about how the sons and daughters of the Chinese Nation generously donated their money for the Beijing Olympics and the construction of the Water Cube.
The hall demonstrates the structure of the Water Cube to visitors by models and pictures of the venue. In this hall, marvelous technologies of architecture and material science will be introduced to visitors. Meanwhile, visitors can also get a better understanding of the three major design philosophies of the venue including "Green, Science & Technology and Humanism".
This exhibition hall is situated on the fourth floor of the eastern side, South Building. Covering nearly 300 square meters, the exhibition shares the peak moment and glory of the Chinese swimming team in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
