There are nearly 1,000 seats and comfortable and luxurious chairs. In addition, the theater is suitable for all kinds of performances, large-scale conferences, and film screenings.
In particular, the successful performance of The Legend of KUNGFU makes the Red Theater a new highlight of Beijing’s tourism performance. Since the large stage play was on, it has received more than 100 foreign leaders, diplomats of embassies to China, and their spouses.
The Cultural Palace was founded in 1953.
In 1986, Zhao Puchu, former vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, inscribed the name of the palace.
In 1998, the Cultural Palace was awarded the “Demonstration of Workers’ Culture Palace among National Trade Union Systems” by the All-China Federation of Trade Union (ACFTU).
In 2001, the Cultural Palace, approved by the Beijing Municipal Cultural Bureau and Beijing Municipal Tourism Bureau, became a designated performance place for tourism in Beijing.
In 2004, the Grand Theater of Workers' Cultural Palace was renamed the Red Theater after cooperating with Heaven Creation International Performing Arts Co., Ltd.
The Legend of KUNGFU is a regular performance repertoire integrating Chinese martial arts, acrobatics, dance, and other artistic elements. It tells the story of a little boy’s farewell to his mother and going to the temple to learn from his teacher. He finally became a great master of his generation through enlightenment, stringent practice on Chinese Kungfu. The play interprets the eternal theme of “suffering and growth”.
In 2006, the performance of The Legend of KUNGFU in the Red Theater was recognized by Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG) as the designated repertoire of the Olympic Games. At the same time, it participated in many performances in the Olympic Village, National Stadium, flag plaza, Xiangyun Theater, and Olympic News Center.
In 2010, on Twitter, The Legend of KUNGFU was selected as the best performance of Friends of Branson in 2010.
